Getting started…often seems difficult and a little confusing. I believe in making the building process EASY and FUN. Hi, my name is Bob Herring and I am here to assist you in realizing your dream of a new custom home. Below are some things to consider as you prepare to take those first steps toward your dream home. After all, dreams are an exciting part of life and building a custom home should be no exception. I GUARANTEE It!

Home Site/Location

The first and most important step in building your dream home is, selecting the land. Whether a small lot or acreage in the country is what you have in mind, care and attention are critical. The "lay of the land" or topography should be looked at closely before you make your purchase. Does the property have an excessive drop or slope over a 100 feet in radius? Is there a relatively flat area that your home could be placed? Trees and vegetation can hide the contours and make it hard for the untrained eye to see potentially costly land grading and leveling. I am happy to meet you at your potential home site and walk the lot at no cost to you. While walking your lot I will take elevations and give you an evaluation as to where to best locate your new home. The advice I give can make your lot decision an easy task and could save you money.

Already selected your home site? I would like to meet at your lot and give you a site evaluation at no charge. The characteristics of your land, tree locations, scenic views, and other home design considerations can best be recognized while walking your lot. Building on unique or challenging terrain is what I specialize in with the opportunity to utilize 30 plus years of hard earned experience.

Home Design

Do you have some floor plans or magazine clippings you have been saving? Do you have some home plans that need modifying to suit your lifestyle? Whether you want to start your home design from scratch or modify one of our designs, I will make sure your set of plans has everything you want. I will meet with you personally to discuss your dreams and needs to begin this fun and exciting process.

I can work with your architect or my featured designer, Michael Land, to insure your home has all the things you are dreaming about. Michael Land has designed over 2000 homes and will work with us to give you the very best home design that suits the unique features of your lot and your character. Mike also has many existing floor plan options and elevation styles to help you get started designing your dream home.

Home Planning

Before construction can begin, there are some easy steps I will walk you through as we developed your dreams for your new home within your budget.

• Step 1.   The lot is surveyed, which you may already have. This will tell us about the easements and a building line to start from. With this information we can" rough stake" the location of your home on your lot. Now we can actually see how the topography and trees will possibly effect the design of your home.
  

• Step 2.   A soil report is ordered to determine what type of foundation will be needed for the soil conditions on your lot.
  

• Step 3.   With a completed and finalized set of plans I am able to arrive at a preliminary budget.
  

• Step 4.   We will meet to discuss any custom features such as finely crafted wine cellars, special kitchen cabinetry, master bathroom fixtures, energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems or what ever your dreams entail. I am always ready to suggest alternatives to expensive materials in order to achieve your desired budget.
  

• Step 5.   At this time we arrive at more specific selections and decisions along with a professionally designed foundation plan that accurately describes the exact foundation for your home. Plans, specifications and allowances are finalized along with a final budget. I will then put together a package for your bank or mortgage company to review.

Home Construction

You as my clients are involved in every step of the process and construction is no different. I personally supervise each and every step in the home building process. Skilled craftsmen are hired, quality materials are ordered and work is supervised to insure the homeowner's satisfaction. I am at your home site daily to personally take care of any need that arises.

If you want to request changes during construction, "No problem!" Changes in plans can always be made to accommodate your needs. I recommend using an interior designer during this phase to help with color selections and other home decorating decisions. A good decorator can help make every room in a home fit your personality and lifestyle.

Home Completion

Upon completion of your home, I personally walk you through your house making sure that every detail is checked and if needed, warranty work is scheduled. I want to make sure you are comfortable operating everything in your new home and are completely satisfied with the final product. I am sure that what started out, as a partnership with Bob Herring Homes to build a dream, will end in a lasting friendship.
